In the third part of Toys to Play, we will take a look at another Red Ant product, and this time it’s Curare overdrive. It’s a little rougher than Mustard from the first part of Toys, but you’ll see that in the video.
Red Ant CURARE is an overdrive, structurally based on the legendary ELECTRA DISTORTION and its modern COT 50 clone from LOVEPEDAL. It uses a pair of germanium diodes connected in hard clipping mode to distort. The sound could best be characterized as an old good “plexi sound” with an excellent response to the dynamics of playing. Especially when using VOLUME on guitar, you can get a very wide range of sounds, from clean boost to a bold vintage overdriven sound.
